The $20 deposit secures your place in line for the first production run of APS skis. This amount will be credited toward your final purchase when the skis are ready for delivery.
We're targeting production to begin in 2026, with first deliveries expected in mid 2026. We'll keep you updated throughout the production process.
Yes, the $20 deposit is fully refundable if you decide to cancel your reservation before production begins. Simply contact us to process your refund.
Final pricing will be announced closer to production. Early reservations will receive priority pricing and exclusive updates on production progress.
Absolutely. All payments are processed through Stripe, an industry-leading payment processor that uses bank-level security and encryption to protect your information.
We'll give your money back.
Eligible skis sold new by Outsider or an authorized retailer are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for a defined period from the date of purchase. If the problem comes from how the ski was built—not from ordinary skiing—we'll work with you on a fair resolution. Exact term lengths may be finalized before the first production ships; the terms in effect when you purchased apply to you. The Outsider Power Reel and other wear parts follow the reel replacement policy, not the broad ski warranty alone.
Only the original retail purchaser may submit a warranty request. You need verifiable proof of purchase (receipt or order confirmation); informal or handwritten receipts may not be enough. Demos, prototypes sold as-is, and second-hand skis are generally not eligible unless we say otherwise in writing. Registering your skis when registration is available helps us confirm ownership and contact you about service.
Damage from impacts, misuse, or the environment is not a manufacturing defect. Examples include edge, base, or sidewall damage from rocks or debris; damage from racks, trams, vehicles, or shipping (unless we packed it wrong); cosmetic top sheet or sidewall wear from normal skiing; improper storage or hardware corrosion; alterations outside our guidance; mounting or tuning errors (including binding pull-outs that didn't follow specs); theft, loss, or vandalism; skiing on a ski you already know is damaged; and normal wear or performance changes after extensive use.
No. Alpine and touring bindings are covered only by their manufacturer's warranty. They must be installed and tested by a qualified technician on a schedule that matches the binding instructions and good local practice. We are not responsible for binding performance or for injury related to bindings.
Gather clear photos of the full ski and close-ups of the problem, plus your proof of purchase. Use our support form—it is best for uploads. We'll review what you send and may ask for more photos or for the ski to be sent in for inspection; if so, we'll give you an RMA and packing instructions. You're usually responsible for shipping the ski to us unless we agree otherwise; we typically match your service level when we ship back a repair or replacement. We try to repair when that makes sense. If a replacement is warranted, we offer the same model and length when possible, or a comparable current ski if yours is out of production. Warranty resolutions are not cash refunds except where required by law.
We do not reimburse lift tickets, travel, lodging, rental gear, or shop labor tied to a warranty event unless we explicitly agree in writing.
We're a team of designers, engineers, and builders who are passionate about creating innovative products that make a difference in people's lives. We are not a big corporate entity, but a small team of individuals who are committed to creating products that are both innovative and sustainable. We have background in competitive alpine skiing & cycling. We share our time between the San Francisco Bay area and Lake Tahoe. Some of us have other sport experience e.g. windsurfing, skateboarding, etc. At the same time we also have spent years in business and product development, energy sector, and physics. As a result our combined knowledge, experience, and skills allow us to create products that are both innovative and sustainable.
Sherry and Shane McConkey are the inspiration to the APS. They are the ones who first came up with the idea and have been pushing for it for years. We brought the engineering, design, and business talent to it to make it reality. Shane's legacy is incredible, and we should not only preserve it, but continue to push it forward.
Ask David and/or Sherry.
No, we are in this for the right reasons, and we have something unusual and innovative to offer to the world of skiers out there. We want to push skiing to the next level. Once it's done we will see if we need to get out, or if we can continue to push the boundaries of what's possible. David has skied where there is no snow with bad equipment, and will ski to the last inch on the last every single season. First in, last out.
It's not a fantasy. We built two prototypes so far. We also took into account modern ski shape design standards, as well as informed our approach from other sports e.g. windsurfing, mountain biking. We engineered the shape with high precision, using the best Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools. Then, we transferred the CAD designs over to animation tools to create a presentable version for the web.
We built several prototypes and tested it in different snow conditions at Palisades Tahoe and Kirkwood.
The Adaptive Profile System is a revolutionary technology that allows skis to adapt their shape based on terrain conditions and skier preference. That is, the skis can change from camber to rocker. This means one pair of skis can perform optimally across a range of snow conditions.
The APS utilizes integrated high-tensile strength cables with a reeling mechanism placed in the center of the skis. Tensioning the cables via the reeling mechanism allows the ski to change its profile.
APS is designed to perform across all conditions from fresh powder to hard-packed groomers, moguls, and even variable spring conditions. The adaptive technology allows you to optimize performance for the specific conditions you're facing.
The APS mechanism has been extensively tested in multiple prototypes in extreme conditions (at Kirkwood and Palisades Tahoe) and is built to last. The production version is planned to be constructed with high-grade materials and designed to withstand the rigors of regular skiing use over many seasons.
We're currently working on finalizing CAD details. For now, you can pre-order your pair, and we'll notify you when your pair is ready to ship.
We are going to use that money to cover the costs of production, marketing, and distribution.
We are in the process of designing other sizes and colors/designs. Of course we want to produce all the standard ski sizes. We will announce them when they are ready.
Yes, we are always open to exploring collaboration opportunities.
We are working on one right now, please stay tuned.
